East Austin Alley Activation Project

This project is a community-led effort to reimagine underused alleys as safe, welcoming spaces that reflect the neighborhood’s culture and history.

Through charrettes with neighbors, local businesses, designers and city staff, we’re identifying practical, low-cost pilot improvements-like lighting, waydingin, art and planting which addressing real infrastructure needs such as trash service and access.

The goal is a phased, maintainable “third place” that can grow over time through partnerships and stewardship.

The end goal is to create an environment that businesses and residents want to interact and connect with by building entrances to their business and gates from their backyards, even small businesses that operate with walk up windows directly in the alley.
